Most major news and media outlets rely on helicopters to track traffic or report on happenings below. Helicopter reporting or investigating is also relied upon for search-and-rescue missions or when getting up close on the ground is impossible, such as car chases or hostage situations. But a pilot who must pay attention to what’s happening below while also operating an aircraft is a pilot whose attention is divided – meaning the pilot’s attention is necessarily diverted away from safely operating the aircraft.
